Including, supporting and challenging all young people through PE and School Sport...

The Canterbury School Sports Partnership is a network of teachers who care passionately about
the sporting participation of the pupils in their school.

As a partnership, we will pursue 'sport for all', working together to benefit everyone, irrespective of
age, gender, race or ability. We will use the power of P.E. and Sport to increase the self esteem of teachers, students, leaders and AOTTs, thus encouraging them to develop self discipline and
team work skills, enhance their leadership potential and introduce them to activities they may
enjoy and derive health benefits from for a lifetime.

The PESSCL Strategy is now the PE & Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) often referred to
as the 5 Hour Offer.  By 2011 the ambition outlined in the Strategy is to offer all children at least 5 hours of sport every week, comprising:

  • At least 2 hours high quality PE in the curriculum (5-16 year olds)
  • The opportunity for at least a further 3 hours of sport beyond the school day delivered
by a range of school, community and club providers (5-19 yr olds)

School Sport Partnerships (SSP's) are responsible for driving the school element of the 5 hour offer. Our role is to ensure that all 5-19yr olds have access to high quality Physical Education and Sport in a school/college setting.

Desired Partnership outcomes:

The PDM, SSCos and PLTs work together to produce and implement a 3 year strategy that addresses 5 key aims:

  • Provision of High Quality PE for all students: To advocate the importance of 2 hours of High quality PE for all young people. Assistance in training and supporting across the curriculum for Teachers, TA's, coaches etc.
  • Provision of opportunities for all young people to participate in a range of high quality activities on a school/college site: to provide new and enhanced out of schools hours opportunities for all young people in the partnership, including out of school hours learning, non-competitive participation and competition.
  • Provide opportunities for all young people to access a range of high quality activities in a community environment: to increase all young people's participation in community sport through creating and strengthening links with sports clubs, leisure facilities and community providers.
